Homebrewing Your First Batch: A No-Stress Guide

September 30, 2026 · 1 min read

Homebrewing is easier than you think. A one-gallon kit on your stovetop is the perfect start.

What you need

  • A kit (grain or extract, hops, yeast)
  • A big pot, a fermenter and an airlock
  • Sanitiser — the single most important item
  • Bottles and caps (or swing-tops)

The basic steps

  1. Steep or mash grains, then boil with hops (about an hour).
  2. Cool quickly, transfer to the sanitised fermenter and add yeast.
  3. Ferment 1–2 weeks at a stable temperature.
  4. Bottle with a little priming sugar and wait 2 weeks to carbonate.
