Homebrewing is easier than you think. A one-gallon kit on your stovetop is the perfect start.
What you need
- A kit (grain or extract, hops, yeast)
- A big pot, a fermenter and an airlock
- Sanitiser — the single most important item
- Bottles and caps (or swing-tops)
The basic steps
- Steep or mash grains, then boil with hops (about an hour).
- Cool quickly, transfer to the sanitised fermenter and add yeast.
- Ferment 1–2 weeks at a stable temperature.
- Bottle with a little priming sugar and wait 2 weeks to carbonate.
